The Farm at New Garden Park
Our Mission
To cultivate a “front porch” farm where the parish, community, and the land are all nourished by the Gospel.
Our Vision
To welcome our church, Greensboro, and all nations to the banquet table of Christ.
At the farm, we are grounded in a ‘New Creation’ ethic, or a belief that God is restoring all of creation in Christ. As Christians, we are to be a sign, a foretaste, and an instrument of the restored kingdom of God that is coming. We practice a method of land care called regenerative farming as a way of living into this belief. Regenerative farming is a method of cultivating land that works with God’s ecosystems, rather than against them. This method produces food, flowers, and medicine, while simultaneously restoring ecological life to the land and the soil, in partnership with the Holy Spirit.
We have been called by God to form this piece of land as a place of radical hospitality to both human and non-human creatures. In a fallen world of alienation and death, as Christians we are called to create spaces that are havens of welcome and rest and nourishment. We are actively working to make our farm a place where as much diverse ecological life flourishes as possible. We are also working to make our farm a place where human community flourishes, with a focus on those marginalized in our society: including at-risk children and youth, immigrant communities, folks with disabilities, and people experiencing food insecurity and poverty.
As Anglicans, we also hope this farming ministry forms us as holy people and grounds our eating practices in a Eucharistic worldview. Eucharist, or Holy Communion, teaches us each Sunday to receive all nourishment from God as a gift and to offer the fruits of the earth back to God in thanksgiving. We hope that the farm teaches us to have sacramental reverence for all our meals, to cultivate our vision for how God provides for our daily bread through his creation.
